me -- to neutralize me. I have been waiting for the attact. This appears to

[ This is a serious matter - so I suggest that others who care to weigh
in on it do so very carefully. I am personally relaying this article
to the NATIVE-L list, though Jay generally takes care of the list,
since there had been some question in the mind of the author as to
whether the article would be passed on to NATIVE-L, and I wanted to
get it out without further delay.
I cannot verify that John Trudell is in fact the author of this state-
ment, since the message comes from an America Online account (which is
registered in the name of a third party - neither John Trudell nor
LeAnn LaBar, who posted an article to NATIVE-L from the account a few
days ago).
As it is, I consider the information on both sides to be very sketchy.
Given that this matter is so serious, Jay and I will be considering
whether we want to permit this discussion to continue on NATIVE-L. It
might be best if anyone who has information on the subject get in touch
directly with Catalina Reyes (catrey@unm.edu), who initially asked for
information concerning the statement she had heard attributed to Bob
Robideau during a book signing appearance in Albuquerque. Perhaps
Catalina would be willing at some later date to summarize the information
she has collected.
