Consider the recent return of the Keetoowah Band of Cherokees to
Arkansas. They lived there before the Trail of Tears but were moved
westward when the forced removal began - being uprooted again. A few
months ago they obtained some land south of fort Smith, Arkansas. Some
of there oral traditions are bound-up in describing when the Cherokees
move eastward.

For more information, contact Chief John Ross, UKB of Cherokee, P.O. Box
746, Tahlequah, Ok. 74465-0746. (918) 456-5491. Also may talk with
Earnestine Berry or Jimmie Lou Whitekiller at the same address and phone.
Or, you may call the tribe historian Dave Whitekiller at (918) 775-2580.

They have a most interesting history and current situation.

Also consider the Stockbridge_Munsee Tribe of Mohicians. They have been
embrolled in an intertribal struggle. Contact Bob Chicks (715) 793-4050.

Please feel free to ask me any questions, but I don't know very much
about these individual situations.
