You might be interested in the struggle the Lumbee Indians of Southeastern
North Carolina (around Pembroke, Robeson County, N.C.) are having in getting
federal recognition. They have been trying to get recognition via Congress.
Ironically, their biggest opponent is U.S. Senator Jesse Helms from N.C. The
Lumbee are a very interesting people. There story would be a great TV
documentary.
