>From AP:
Tonkawa, Oklahoma; Tonkawa tribal politics is endangering tribal
unity as a BIA judge has issued a temporary restraining order against
Richard Cornell who is to succeed Virginia Combrink as tribal president.
Ms. Combrink returned to the tribal HQ recently, assisted by
tribal and a BIA investigator, who inventoried the records in an attempt
to calm the fears of both factions that the other might remove or change
tribal records.
Cornell, who was recognized by the BIA as tribal president said,
"All of this can be overturned by the area (BIA) office." He doubted that
he would be out of office for long. A statement recently released by the
BIA office in Pawnee, Oklahoma indicated that the BIA would continue to
recognize Cornell as the tribal president.
