On Wednesday, October 18th, the Wetlands Rainforest
Action Group and the Western Canada Wilderness
Committee (WCWC) brought WCWC's 10,000 pound
stump from Clayoquot Sound to the New York Times.
This demonstration was part of a coalition effort between
Friends of Clayoquot Sound, WCWC, Greenpeace and
Rainforest Action Network to boycott all MacMillan
Bloedel products in response to their destructive
clearcutting of Clayoquot Sound - the largest remaining
intact tract of temperate rainforest in the world! The New
York Times is one of MacMillan Bloedel's eight major
U.S. paper buyers. We demonstrated during lunch time
and collected over 600 signatures of individuals
promising to boycott the N.Y. Times! The Times even
agreed to meet with activists. To keep the pressure up, we
are having another protest on Monday, December 19th
from 11 am to 2 p.m.. RAGs should consider joining the
"12 Days of Clear Cut" series of protests against the Mac
Blo Paper buyer near you. To participate, please call Marc
Evans at Greenpeace (415)-512-9025 and Atossa Soltani at
RAN (415)398-4404.
In addition on Wednesday, November 30th, various
RAGers responded to a hot tip from a whistleblower at
Texaco. We found out that there would be an "Open
House" for stock exchange analysts and that they would be
picked up by bus from two sights. We visited the two
buses and presented "alternative" information packages to
the stock analysts as they boarded the buses. Just to make
sure that no analysts fell through the gaps, we faxed a
similar information package to all the stock analysts who
cover Texaco for their firms. Responding to "insider tips"
and other special opportunities are a fun and easy way to
hurt Multinational's profits!
