The calabash gourd is "really big" in Hawaiian tradition... You could
probably get a LOT of information from the Bishop Museum. There was a
posting last April from Anita Manning, the Asst. Director of the
Collections Management Dept, and she gave her address as:

She may not be the correct person to contact, but I know she can direct
you further. Also, I was looking at a very large book on groud embellishment
last year that included what looked like some calabash gourds, from Africa.
