I am posting this to the list, rather than by e-mail to Bret Diamond,
because there have been past requests for help with information on
Native Americans in northern California and adjacent areas. So this
is directed to all who may be seeking such information. Beginning in
the early decades of this century, the University of California at
Berkeley began intensive studies on the cultures, languages, and
archaeological remains of the indigenous peoples of California, Oregon,
and Nevada. The studies were published, mostly, in two monograph series,
_University of California Publications in American Archaeology and
Ethnology_ and _Anthropological Records_. The individual monographs
were published in numbered series and bound together in volumes (I hope
most of you understand this). I know of no college or university library
that catalogs the individual monographs; rather the catalog entry is for
the series.
To access those monographs which pertain to specific tribes, consult
George Peter Murdock's _Ethnographic Bibliography of North America_.
The latest edition was published in 1975. For more recent books and
articles, I suggest you have your library (if they provide the service)
do a database bibliographic search for you via DIALOG or KNOWLEDGE
INDEX. Hope this helps.
