We have been asked by Slicxwliqw' (Hereditary Chief Charlie Nelson) to
make this announcement as a request for action. David Goldman and Tonya
Lander

First and foremost, the Nuxalk people "...would like to
acknowledge Tatau, the Creator, through Manakays, the Great Spirit, for
all that he has provided since the beginning of time and still provides
today."

The Nuxalk People of Bella Coola, British Columbia will take a
stand on 24-January-1995 against the Bella Coola Motel for the recent
desecration of the sacred burial grounds of their ancestors. The Bella
Coola Motel has erected fense posts into the Nuxalk sacred burials of
Chief Klakamot and his son. The grave stone of Chief Klakamot
was moved from its original resting place. Since then, the manager has
drilled into the graves bringing fragments of bone to the surface.
These acts have not only transgressed the Nuxalk Nation
traditional laws and customs, but also the laws of the Ministry of Heritage
and Archaelogical Branch Government of British Columbia and the Royal
Canadian Mounted Police.
On 24-Jan-1995 the Nuxalk will take a stand against this
injustice. PLEASE NOTIFY RESPONSIBLE MEDIA IN YOUR AREA IMMEDIATELY!
