I'm interested in locating reference material on the history behind and
the use of Choctaw certificates in public land purchases. The Arkansas
Ozarks is my primary interest, but any information would be useful. A
number of land tracts in this area were entered by use of these
certificates. I assume these certificates were reassigned as was done
with military land warrants. The certificate I have a copy of begins
"Certificate issued in pursuance of the provision of the Act of 23rd
August, 1842, in satisfaction of claims under the 14th articles of the
Treaty of September, 1830, made at Dancing Rabbit Creek, with the Choctaw
Indians."
