February 1, 1995 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

It's a great day for the environment, a great day for Native conscience,
and a historic day against ??? [word missing] and avarice.

Word has reached us that the Mescalero traditionalists have defeated a
measure that would have allowed the nuclear industry and the United
States Government to store spent nuclear waste under the mountains of
their sacred lands in New Mexico.

The American Indian Movement wishes to congratulate those brave
Mescalero who - in spite of threats against them - voted against such
a bad scheme initiated by the nuclear conglomerates of this country.

These Mescalero traditionalists are the true warriors of our time.
History will remember them with pride.
