Cindy,
The author was in reality Asa Carter, a speechwriter for George Wallace.
He was the author of Wallace's infamous speech about "drawing a line in the
sand. . . segregation now, segregation forever." Even people in Wallace's
camp were rather shocked by the reactionary, pro-Klan views of Carter. The
person who exposed this connection between Asa Carter and Forrest Carter was
Dan Carter (no relation), a historian in Alabama. Dan Carter has written
a book on Wallace. If you check the reader's guide and the InfoTrac, you
should be able to find the sources on this. Check the past issues of the
Journal of Southern History. I have read "The Education of Little Tree" and
found it a sweet book that will leave you with wet eyes. I find it amazing
that a man like Carter could produce a book like this.
