A public demonstration is to be held on Friday 10th March at 12:30 pm
outside Long Bay Jail in Matraville near Sydney, Australia, against
ongoing Aboriginal deaths in custody.
"This demonstration must be held to allow the many, many, calls of
support and anger at what is happening within the New South Wales
custodial system to be answered," Ray Jackson of the Watch Committee
said.
Since the tragic death of 20 year old Brian Ballard our phones have
not stopped ringing and people want an avenue to express their anger
and frustration at a system that is blind to the need for changes to
be made," said Jackson.
Speakers will be present and it is envisaged that a march will be
made around the prison walls so our brothers will know that they have
support from caring people on the outside, so come and join us.
"We demand an answer from the New South Wales Government and from the
Opposition on what either intend to do if they win Government in this
months's State elections, or is the winning of Government to be the
end of the election as far as Aboriginal prisoners and the
Recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in
Custody are concerned?", Ray Jackson stated.
