I have been asked to pass on a message for a young Aboriginal woman
who will be travelling to the United States in April 1995.

Miss Tammy Williams is a 17 year Aboriginal student from Gympie, in
the State of Queensland, Australia. Tammy is one of two young
Australians who has been chosen to attend the Michael Jackson 'Heal
the World' Conference. Her winning letter on 'Racial Inequity'
outlined how we the indigenous people of Australia have struggled on
in an attempt to obtain justice, racial harmony, equality and
recognition. Other youth from 17 countries throughout the world will
participate in this conference, with the aim to internationally
address each country's problems and to help each other to find valid
solutions.

Tammy's mother (Mrs. Lesley Williams) writes:

'...she wishes to utilise every opportunity that is available to her.
By attending this world congress, it will enable Tammy to speak about
the atrocities faced daily by the Aboriginal people to the
international media. This will prove to be an excellent means of
promoting our cultural heritage on a large scale. ..

Tammy wishes to make contact with indigenous people in the States
including both native Americans and African Americans. She is
particularly interested in meeting with the Navajo people.

Messages to either Tammy or Mrs Williams can be sent either to our
Centre (m_friel@banks.ntu.edu.au) or directly to 8 Grant Street,
South Side, GYMPIE, QUEENSLAND, 4570, AUSTRALIA.

I hope some people can be of assistance in this matter, and look
forward to your replies.
