Hello - I am a graduate student a Georgetown University, currently writing
my Master's Thesis on the representations of Native Americans in American
History textbooks. I am analyzing the content of 10 textbooks that are used
in grades 5-8 in Maryland, Virginia, and DC school systems.
Unfortunately (but not surprisingly) the textbooks include little information
concerning Native Americans after coverage of "The Indian Wars." Many
mention the protests of the 60s and 70s, but they give little detail. Only
one mentions Wounded Knee II. I was interested in your comments about what
*should* be included in these textbooks about recent Native American
history.
