SACRAMENTO URBAN INDIAN HEALTH PROJECT, INC.
POSITION: Executive Director
POSITION SUMMARY: The Executive Director shall be responsible for the
day-to-day operations of the corporation. The Executive Director shall
oversee the financial, organizational, operational, and planning functions of
the corporation.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Executive Director shall be responsible for the
following:
- the day-to-day management of the corporation;
- oversight of organizational expenditures within guidelines established by
the Board of Directors;
- all personnel actions including hiring, firing, and recommended salary
status of employees within approved salary ranges established by the Board of
Directors;
- develop grants and proposals to promote the mission of SUIHPI;
- compliance with public and private contracts and grants;
- established short term and long term organizational goals in conjunction
with department heads and the Board of Directors;
- community, governmental, and public relations to ensure access to needed
resources and other assistance;
- apprising the Board of Directors on trends in health care delivery, needs
of SUIHPI, policy considerations, and other organizational needs;
- performs other such duties as assigned by vote of the Board of Directors.
The Executive Director shall fulfill these responsibilities through the
performance of the following functions:
- administration including development of a proper organizational structure
sufficient for timely and appropriate decision making;
- business and finance including the preparation of an operational budget,
monitoring of expenditures, seeking of additional sources of revenue, and
ensuring that appropriate records of financial transactions and business
activities are maintained;
- personnel management including direct supervision of key administrative
personnel and ensuring compliance with existing personnel rules and laws;
- community relations including activities which promote and foster a
positive image of the organization and the services provided;
- planning and development including monitoring present program operations,
assissing community needs, developing program alternatives for presentation
to the Board of Directors, seeking resources-financial, technical, and
political to support such planned activities, and working cooperatively with
other community agencies and causes in the promotion of greater resource
distribution to lower income and underserved communities.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: The Executive Director is responsible to the
Board of Directors and is directly supervised by the Chairperson of the
Board.
QUALIFICATIONS: The Executive Director is a highly responsible position
requiring advanced training and experience. Qualifications for the position
shall include:
- master's degree in public health, health care administration, public
administration or a related field, or
- bachelor's degree in the above field plus at least five (5) years of
progressive management experience in a community-based health care setting;
- excellent oral and written communications skills;
- proven track record with funded project management including proposal
development, application preparation, budget administration, and reports
management;
- the ability to manage numerous projects concurrently and provide adequate
attention and appropriate decision making to each;
- knowledge of general financial management and non-profit budgeting;
- and understanding of the dynamics of the health care field;
- familiarity with the health of American Indians and Alaska Natives, and the
delivery of health services to this population;
- demonstrated history of sound judgement and practical decision-making.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: The Executive Director position is full-time and
salaried. The Executive Director shall be eligible for all benefits provided
to employees of the corporation as well as additional benefits as negotiated
by the Board of Directors. Salary shall be negotiable.
AMERICAN INDIAN PREFERENCE: Applicants who are of American Indian descent
will be given hiring preference (USC Section 45, U.S. Supreme Court,
6/17/74).
