The Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI)
is seeking an individual to serve as Repatriation Program Manager in New
York. This person will work closely with representatives of Indian tribes
to develop inventories of sacred and ritual objects in the museum's
collection and to ascertain the degree of association between these objects
and extant Native American groups. In cases where a link can be established
and the Native American group in question requests repatriation of the
collection, this person will be responsible for coordinating necessary
deaccession activities and other collection processing involved in the
release of collections. We are seeking a person experienced in the wide
range of administrative laws, policies, regulations, and precedents related
to the repatriation of Native American collections. Candidates should have
an awareness of current issues of importance to the Native American
community concerning the disposition of Native American holdings of NMAI.

This is a Federal position (GS 1001-13). Salary range is $52,788 to $68,622
