Geothermal suit settled

The State of Hawaii has officially given up all efforts to
promote geothermal development in the Wao Kele o Puna
rainforest on the Big Island. The February settlement
finalizes the victory won last year when True Geothermal
pulled out of the project.

The Sierra Club Legal Defense Fund won the case
representing a coalition of the Big Island Rainforest
Action Group, Pele Defense Fund, and 10 other groups.

[ This issue has been especially important to Native Hawaiian people,
who have lobbied against geothermal development on grounds that to
do so would violate sacred territory. --Gary (gst@gnosys.svle.ma.us) ]
