The latest development post-yes vote for the nuclear storage
facility has to do with the Apache children who attend public
schools in the nearby towns of Ruidoso and Tularosa. Seems
some of the kids have been beaten up, called names, shunned, etc.
by other children in retailiation for the parents' and grand-
parents' decision in favor of the facility. It has become such
a dangerous situation that a consortium of utilities intending
to use the reservation for its waste disposal site has promised
to bring portable classrooms onto the reservation before school
starts again in the fall. In that way, the kids won't be
vulnerable any more and much animosity might be avoided.

At least that's what the rumor says.
