Here I join in again with what I've been believing. Susan Miller made the
distinction between "Algonquian" and "Algonkian", one being anthropological,
but I've always thought to be somewhat interchangeable, and referring to a
linguistic group--with the "u" in the former silent, as in Spanish. I thought
that "Algonkin" or "Algonquin" referred to a tribe originally in SE Canada, and
were encountered/encountered people such as Cartier, and Nicolet. Their lang-
uage, while in the Algonquian/kian family, is in a sub-family that includes
Salteaux, Ottawa, and Ojibway. Ah! I've located a few bands in Canada:
Barriere Lake Band, Grand Lac Victoria, Kipawa, Lac Simon, Long Point, and
Temiskaming bands, all in Quebec.
Well, that's all I can do now--must get back to work. I hope this isn't grossly
in error!!
