In the last two months Bogota's Mayor, Antanas Mockus (who was
known as an alternative leader) has implemented a policy of public
space freeing which has encouraged forced evictions of street
vendors, low income settlements and squatters without any solution
of shelter or working space for this people, therefore more people
in Bogota is living in conditions of misery and increasing violence
in the streets.
The eviction of 40 families of the recycling community of Pedro
Leon Trabuchi has been announced for the first days of June,
although this community has been working in a proyect to leave
the area where there are settled and has been raising funds to
relocate themselves in conditions of dignity.
To support the effort of the Pedro Leon Trabuchi's community and
to stop forced evictions we are asking for your solidarity, by
sending faxes to the Mayor's office pledging to end the police
operations and asking for alternatives for safe resettlement for
this communities.
