Hi there! First I would like to introduce myself. My name is Tanya
Ivchenko, and I work for a PBS series called "Point of View". This year,
P.O.V. is airing a film called
"Lighting the 7th Fire" by filmmaker Sandra Sunrising Osawa. The film
centers around a Chippewa prophecy that foretells a time when lost
traditions will be brought back to life in a time known as the Seventh
Fire. Sandra Osawa examines how the
Chippewa Indians of Northern Wisconsin have struggled to restore the
centuries-old tradition of spear fishing -- and the heated opposition they
have encountered. The show airs July 4, 1995 (Tuesday night at 10 pm on
PBS, but check your local listings).
I am writing to you for a few reasons. The first is regarding P.O.V.
interactive, an evolving experiment in the use of online technologies to
provide TV viewers with opportunities to share their reactions to P.O.V.
films, and to access resources and information about the subjects they
address. I need suggestions from those who know the Native American online
community better than myself. Where would you suggest I post this
information about the broadcast? We are cultivating many online partners
to publicize the broadcast of all of our films as widely as possible. If
you have any advice, or know bulletin boards, web pages, etc, where this
information would be readily seen by much of the community, please write me
(Tanya Ivchenko) or Elizabeth Wagley at: ewagley@pov.org
Thanks for all of your help!
Tanya Ivchenko

Comments from NativeNet listowner, Gary Trujillo (gst@gnosys.svle.ma.us):
The NativeNet community will be able to take part in the discussions of
this documentary film after it is aired, by means of a mailing list set
up by the P.O.V. producers. Details of how things will work will be
indicated in the followup article and in subsequent information posted
to NATIVE-L as the date of airing draws nearer.
