service brings will threaten fish stocks

BELLA BELLA - They welcomed the Queen of the North this weekend, but
natives here fear they new ferry could destroy their way of live.
B.C. Ferry Corp. president Frank Rhodes called the car-ferry service "a
huge breakthrough" to make the mid-coast "a tourist Eldorado".
But just hours after the service began on Friday, natives vowed to head
off at least some tourists.
The Heiltsuk tribal council announced it will force a halt to
construction of a fishing lodge for tourists at nearby Koeye Bay.
Newly elected Chief Arlene Wilson said there are more than a dozen
sport-fishing lodges between Vancouver Island and Prince Rupert.
"If Koeye Bay must be the battleground, so be it," Wilson said. "We say
enough is enough."
