accompaniment in areas of conflict, create "breathing space" for
groups working nonviolently for social justice in Guatemala,
Colombia, Haiti, Sri Lanka and Native Communities in North
America. PBI's presence protects the political space available
for these courageous activists to carry out their work, and
volunteers have the privilege of witnessing this inspiring work on
a daily basis.
PBI has accompanied Rigoberta Menchz, the GAM, the CERJ, labor
unions, returning refugees, CONAVIGUA, the CPRs and many other
threatened activists in Guatemala. In addition to protective
accompaniment, the team maintain regular contact with the
government, the UN and the diplomatic corps, and produces regular
reports analyzing the situation and the team's work.
