The American Indian Heritage Center of Texas, Inc. will be holding its
monthly meeting on Saturday, August 19 in Canton, Texas. The meeting
will be at the Van Zandt Co. Library, 317 First Monday Lane from 10:30 am
- 12.30.

The speakers will be Leo Quinino of the Greater Dallas Chamber of
Commerce and the new executive director of the Center, Pam Wood. The
topic of discussion will be economic development of the American Indian
Heritage Center of Texas in Van Zandt Co..

The Center established the "Renew the Dream" project to raise funds for
purchasing the land where Cherokee Chief Bowles and his associates of
various tribes were killed as they were being driven from their lands 156
years ago. The President of the Center, Ruth Smith, said "The plans
we have for our heritage center will be a positive step toward bringing
our people together again. It was once a happy village, we are building
a happy village again."

Prints of a painting to commemorate the site will be available for
purchase at the meeting. All proceeds will go toward purchase of the land.
