In addition to sending letters, I have found that the only real way to
protest against environmental destruction is to boycott the products.
Although most of us cannot be 100% there are so many ways we can help by:

Stopping the use of petroleum based products. Even if we stopped using
cosmetic products containing petroleum alone, it would put a dent in their
economic situation.

Using natural products (not Naturally based i.e. "Body Shop) not only is
better for our environment, but better for our own personal health.

Using alternative products from rainforest nations that can sustain their
economies (again cosmetic products) can off set some of the financial losses.

Here in south Florida there is a large amount of environmental damage due to
the sugar cane industry. I have simply stopped buying any products that
contain sugar. I then go to the store manager and say I was going to buy
xyz product, but it contains sugar which is destroying our ecosystem. When
people are hit in the pocketbook their ears definately perk up!
