The Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) has just released a 164 page
report entitled TELECOMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY AND NATIVE AMERICANS :
OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES. It was prepared at the request of the Senate
Committee on Indian Affairs, and is the first federal government report on
Native American technologies.

Broad section headings include: "Telecommunications Technology and
Native American Cultures", Telecommunications Techology and Native American
Community-Building", Native American Sovereignty and Telecommunications
Policy", and "Framework for Native American Telecommunications".

The Advisory Panel includes Dr. George Baldwin, Manley Begay of the
American Indian Economic Development Project, Gary Garrison of AIHEC,
Rio Lara Bellon, among others.

Stephanie Gajar, one of the principal staff involved with the
compilation of this report at OTA, has told me that OTA has fallen
victim to federal downsizing and will be eliminated as a congressional
office ASAP. She is willing, however, to send out FREE copies of this
report to anyone who calls her and requests one.

However, you MUST call her before September 29, I guess because her
office will be gone by then. You can call Stephanie Gajar at 202-228-6779.
