The CBC National News reported on Sep. 14 that neither spiritual leader
Orville Lookinghorse nor Canim Lake Chief Antoine Archie were successful in
bringing an end to the standoff. Visibly disappointed family, friends, and
police are still hopeful for a peaceful resolution. The Shuswap nation is
apparently in the process of making a formal request to the United Nations
to send observers.
The Vancouver Sun reports that the soldier injured while handling a stun
grenade will probably lose some of the function of his right arm. Two of the
three camp occupants arrested Tuesday have been charged with
trespass-related offenses while the third, a juvenile, was released.
