Hurricane is a Mayan word that originally depicted a cosmological event.
[ Apologies for having held up this article for a few days. I wanted to
insert a comment into it to say that I heard a statement recently on the
radio claiming that the word comes from "Hurican" (sp?), a Taino deity.
