[ The following announcement has gone out previously, but it seems fair
to send it out again, since the conference is just over a month away,
as of the time of writing. Perhaps I'll see some of you there. --Gary ]

This is a text copy of a much prettier brochure going out to advertise our
INSAP conference. Read on if you are interested in information services to
Aboriginal peoples in these areas:

-->Internet services for Aboriginal peoples
-->Computerized curriculum and instruction
-->New technologies for archiving materials, mainly print.
-->Automation of libraries
-->Jobbers who can assist First Nations libraries
-->(Just added) Selecting resources for First Nations Libraries.

There will be a mixture of peoples: school teachers and admnistrators,
community and band representatives, people generally intersted in the topics
being discussed.

The INSAP Conference
*Information *Services for *Aboriginal *Peoples

INSAP will help us use information technology to positively affect First
Nations education, library services, and retention of history culture and
language.

Sessions will be held relating to the Internet, electronic publishing,
computerized instruction, and library information services.

The Internet sessions will explore the potential of Internet services, and
demonstrate the best material available for First Nations students and
community members.

Library automation software as used at the SICC will be available for free
to band libraries in Saskatchewan: LEXIFILE search and circulation modules
plus training. Software lists at $1700.00. Free software utility programs
and instructions available for out of province attendees.

*Archiving sessions deal with big issues. What do we archive? Who gets
access? Who performs the work? What new technolgies are available?
How do we get funding?

*The Hyperlink curriculum session will show how technological advances can
help us to relate or transform exisiting curriculum to a First Nations
product.

*"Pathfinders" is a computerized approach to managing instruction. It has
achieved some successes in First Nations schools; a representative will
demonstrate it.

*Book and periodical jobbers lend their high-volume benefits and automation
expertise to lessen the load on local library staff.
