i work for greenpeace in chicago.
the dioxin campaign around the great lakes mostly is dealing with the
industrial use of chlorine(specifically-dow the world's largest producer
of chlorine, and the paper industry who uses the chlorine to bleach the
paper and then dumps it's biproduct waste into the waters. )
the dioxin comes in as the biproduct of the chlorine and is one of the
world's worst cancer causing agents making counties that border the great
lakes have a 1/5 breast cancer ration for women who live there.dioxin was
present in ddt and agent orange and everybody now knows their effects and
they were then banned by the gov't. there are specific fact sheets and
evev booklets written about the issue which go into much more detail,
greenpeace has 28 offices throughout the us and they will be happy to
send you the info if you write or call any office. thats also a good
reason to contribute to the organization because without it alot of that
knowledge would never be made public. --
