It is a very significant Mi'kmaq symbol in our culture...however, I
understood that it is a seven point star representing the 7 traditional
districts of our traditional territory - I believe it is still considered
a 7 point star. I have never heard, from our the teachings of some of our
elders, that it became an 8 point star in the 1700's when Great Britain
became a member by treaty...
