Russell Thornton wrote a book called American Indian Holocaust and Renewal,
or something like that, in 1987, I'm pretty sure. It is a thorough
demographic examination of the lives lost from European invasion. Another
NA demographer who is very informed on this issue in Matt Snipp, Rural

The number was certainly MUCH bigger than that...don't believe the 1 million.
