the song was sung by georgia larson. it's a square dance melody--turkey in
the straw. it's sung in ojibwe it's about going to the jackpine country
and taking a pillow and a blanket. when georgia sang the song here for
high school students during 'indian week' program, she said that she left
out the part where the young man and young woman come back with a baby.

square dances were 'acceptable' forms of social dancing on the rez where
the christians outlawed traditional social dancing.

when our grandchildren learned to sing the song from the tv episode. our
elder aunt covered her mouth and laughed. she said, "oh that's a bad song."
