I found Russ' book fascinating. It was a "fast read" because it really
lacked substance. I would have preferred some retrospective "hindsights" and
more about his thinking than a pure description of events. In many ways he
has not changed. He was always a superb "performer". It is simply a change
of audience. The book does have a value, however in making non-Indians more
aware of the history of Indian activism. Much of what people learned was
from the media and we know even the best of them are sensationalistic. I
really wish Dennis Banks would have written his biography "Sacred Soul" in
English instead of Japanese. I have a copy but have not yet gotten it
translated.
