Is there someone out there who would like to take over most of
the research and writing of Peru Oil News? The time demands
of my current job have made things very difficult for me to continue;
but given the very large positive reaction to the newsletter, I'd
really love see it continue. If you are interested, or know someone
who is qualified, please take a look below and drop me line. PON
is small, but good - I'd hate to drop the ball.

VOLUNTEER EDITOR FOR PERU OIL NEWS (PON)
(1) What is PON?
An irregular little electronic fishwrapper that covers oil
industry activities in the Peruvian Amazon. PON is
unabashed in its pro-indigenous people, pro-environmental
outlook. At the same time, PON provides timely, accurate-
as-possible information on contract developments, spills,
protests, etc.. that have been underreported elsewhere. PON
is unique enough to have attracted a sizeable following among
people in the oil industry, NGOs, press, and research groups.
Judging by web hits and e-mail responses, my guess is that
PON's serious readership is somewhere just shy of 1,000
people. See the following URL to peruse PON:

(2) What sort of person should take over writing PON?
I started PON as a graduate student and suspect other
students might be interested; but anyone with enthusiasm,
some time, and a basic knowledge of the issues should be
able to take it over. There are some basic requirements
for the research that you should be aware of:
*Advanced proficiency in Spanish
*Some familiarity with Amazonian indigenous peoples' groups
*Access to oil industry journals (eg Platts, Oil Daily, O+G News)
*Reasonably good English writing skills
*Solid command of e-mail and knowledge of listservers
*Some familiarity with Peruvian geography
The following are not essential; but would be useful:
*Access/proficiency with on-line data services (eg Lexis/Nexis)
*Fluency in Spanish
*Extensive knowledge of Peru's Amazonian peoples
*Familiarity with oil industry terminology
*Familiarity with Peru's economic history
*Basic HTML skills
(3) What do you do if you're interested?
Please just drop me a line at "perezoso@nando.net". Don't
be alarmed if there is no immediate, extensive response.
I'm planning to wait for a few days to corral any prospects
before getting back in touch with everyone. Please just tell
me a little about yourself and your experience relevant to
PON. No need to get fancy; but please make sure I hear
the important stuff.
Thanks for your time and interest!
