NativeNet: important notice from listowner/moderator

This article is being written to announce that I will be away from this
coming Monday, 29 January through Saturday, 17 February, during which
time I will be in California visiting my family and in Alberta, where
I'll be speaking at a conference (I'll post details of the "First
Nations Schools and Computer Technology" conference in a separate
article). The reason I consider this announcement important is that I
am uncertain as to whether my computer will be able to keep running
normally during the time of my absence, since I have been having some
major problems with it lately. If you stop receiving articles on this
and/or the other NativeNet lists, it will be either because of a failure
of the computer or because I or someone else cannot take care of relaying
articles in a timely fashion for one reason or another. Please do not
write to me to ask if there's a problem - just assume that there is and
that I will deal with it when I am able.

Again, I'd like to remind everyone that because of my need to reduce the
number of articles that flow through this mailing list, which is made
even more acute by the fact of my being far from my machine for several
weeks, I'd appreciate it if you limit postings to important or time-
sensitive announcements and that routine questions be asked via another
medium, like one of the Usenet newsgroups ("soc.culture.native" or
"alt.native" are best) until further notice. I want to put some energy
into doing what I can to make our operation more stable, if possible,
and to think through my own priorities for a while.

If anyone needs to get in touch with me for an important purpose during
my travels, it would be best to use either "gst@bioc02.uthscsa.edu" or
"gst@ursa-major.spdcc.com" - messages sent to me at my regular address
will be forwarded to me at one of these other addresses - as long as my
own machine is operating. If it fails, of course, it will be unable to
do so.

Thanks to everyone for the understanding you have shown - and thanks
especially to those who have written to offer words of encouragement.
Your support is sincerely appreciated!

Regards to all,

Gary
