IDRS offers a series of leadership training workshops which are designed to
improve people's ability to communicate with one another, to collaborate in
problem solving, and to manage and resolve their disagreements in a
constructive and mutually satisfying (win/win) way. The workshops are
specifically designed by Indian people to mee the needs of Indian people in
conflict, whether involved in internal or external conflict. Three
workshops, "Communication and Negotiation", "Mediation and Peacemaking" and
"Advanced Mediation/Arbitration" are organized in sequence and can be taken
for college credit at D-Q University in Davis, CA for 12 units of college
credit. D-Q University is the only tribally-held college in the state of
California.
The "Communication and Negotiation" workshop will help improve your skills in:
*listening and communicating effectively
*making meetings work
*overcoming people's resistance
*diffusing anger and disruptive behavior
*identifying common interests
*minimizing and resolving conflicts
*building coalitions
*developing fair and lasting agreements
*effective and long-term problem solving
This workshop also trains people on how to deal more effectively with
outside agencies, political agencies, and corporate entities.
The "Communication and Negotiation" workshop will be offered Feb. 23-25 at
D-Q University in Davis, CA, approx. 15 miles west of Sacramento and 80
miles east of San Francisco. The cost for this workshop per person is
$100.00 for individuals, $250.00 if sponsored by an organization. There are
some limited scholarships available.
