I am a Maori woman lecturer at the University of Auckland and I am
teaching a Graduate course this year titled 'Education and the
Politics of Representation: Images of Maori'. I am searching for
discussions/articles related to the representation of
Native/Indigenous peoples, in a range of mediums including film,
video, photography etc. If anyone has any references that may be
useful I would appreciate any help. Also I am trying to bring
together articles/reviews etc of movies from Aotearoa (New Zealand)
to explore how the representations of Maori are being 'read'
internationally, particularly in movies such as 'Once Were Warriors'
and 'The Piano'.
I would be happy also to provide any support I can for people seeking
Maori writings related to these areas, as we have a growing number of
writings that provide critical/cultural analyses.
