The Golden Hill Paugeesukq Tribal Nation in Connecticut is
threatened with genocide by the State legislature. The State has
been involved in a battle against this community for the past
several years, including a four month long siege of the reservation
at Colchester over a dispute arising out of cigarette taxes. Now,
the State is putting forward a bill to remove state recognition
from the Nation. This comes at a time when the State, opposing the
tribe's petition for federal acknowledgement, is withholding vital
documents concerning the three hundred and seventy five year
unbroken history of state to state relationships with the tribe.
The BIA is violating the guidelines set out in the Code of Federal
Regulations, in ruling on a petition, not certified by the tribe,
for the sole purpose of destroying this tribal nation. The tribe
has not certified the petition for the reason that the documents
are not complete without the state records that have been withheld.
It is of the utmost importance that people organize to stop the
removal of recognition from this people which will no doubt end
with the removal of reservation lands. THIS IS THE GENERATION THAT
MUST SAY NOT ONE MORE INCH OF NATIVE LAND! Please form Golden Hill
Paugeesukq Defense Committees.
