Walpole Island First Nation is situated on a delta-marshland where the St.
Clair River flows into Lake St. Clair bordering Ontario and Michigan
located south of Sarnia, Ontario and north of the Windsor-Detroit Metro A.
The Walpole Island marsh is a world class recreation and scenic area. I
1995 Walpole Island was recognized by the United Nations in a ceremony in
New York for its work in preserving the environment.
The Walpole Island First Nation Board of Education is a progressive Board
working toward a higher standard of education to empower its students and
community. The Board is organized with policies and regulations in place
for students, staff, administration and board operations.
The Walpole Island First Nation Board of Education requires a Principal for
its 400 pupil, JK to Grade 8 school for September 1996. The position of
Principal involves the moral and instructional leadership of a staff of 38
teachers and academic support workers. As the educational leader, the
Principal will be expected to be skilled in program planning, development,
implementation and evaluation; and in the training andsuperivsion of staff.
The WalpoleIsland Elementary School is a full service elementary school with
a progressive curriculum. Graduates attend a nearby provincial secondary
school.
Applicants will be considered who have a minimum of 5 years classroom
teaching experience and who hold the professional qualifications to be
Principal in a provincial elementary school; or who have considerable
successful experience as Principal of a First Nation Elementary School and
who have had educational leadership roles in a variety of settings.
Previous experience as Principal is an asset.
