I am of Huron descendant and a traditional leader of the Wendat Longhouse.
and, I beleive that the group which met Cartier in 1534, 1535 and 1541
was of the Huron stock.
I did an intensive research of the Stadacone language (about 300 words
recorded between 1534 and 1541). According to my own research and
according to a few linguists the Stadacone language was 80% Huron
language. Of course, no one (anthropologists, archeologists or the
Government of Quebec) agreed with this statement. This issue is also of
politic concern. To say that the Huron were in Quebec in 1534, is to say
that the Huron have a right to make a land claim of all this region. So,
it is better to say Laurentian Indian.
I have written a book on this topic. I used our tradition and our language
to say that the Stadacone was the Cord nation of the Wendat (Huron)
confederacy. I hope to publish it one of these days, if I can get some help.
The main question about the Stadacone is: "why did the Stadacone leave or
disappear after the last trip of Cartier? (When the French came back to
Stadacone at the begining of the 17th century, there were no villages left).
