Knight-Ridder is offering a 1996-97 journalism scholarship of up to
$5,000. to a promising Native American Student. The scholarship is
designed to attract talented Native Americans to Knight-Ridder
newspapers.
One scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding Native American
college student interested in pursuing a career in newspaper
journalism.
The winner may be invited to apply for additional scholarships in
succeeding years to complete her or his college degree.
The winner will also be required to work at a Knight-Ridder newspaper
as a "paid" intern for the summer of 1996 or 1997.
The first $2,500. will be paid at the beginning of the first semester
and the other half at the start of the second semester. If the school
is on the three-quarter system, approx. $1,667 will be paid at the
beginning of each quarter.
