Yes, we have checked and it seems that no "deed" was ever signed (nor any
treaties) by the Cowlitz Tribe. All I found from the title company was a
land patent stating that the property was to be "..."occupied" as
missionary stations among the Indian Tribes in said Territory together
with the improvements thereon "was" confirmed and established in the
several religious societies to which said missionary stations
respectively belong... this patent (now dated 6-10-1885) shall only
operate as relinquishment of title on the part of the US and shall in no
manner interfere with any valid adverse rights to the same land nor be
construed to preclude a legal investigation and decision by the proper
judicial tribunal between adverse claimants to the same land..."

So far, this is all I have been able to find regarding any "deed" to this
property, nothing prior to 1885. If you have any other suggestions,
please let me know.
