Joint Communique Re: "Abenaki Band Searches For Families"
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Recently a notice appeared in this mailing list and in area newspapers
requesting families with Abenaki ties to respond to a Franklin,
Massachusetts address with their family records and oral histories.
We, the undersigned Bands, as Abenaki Peoples, wish to inform you that
true Abenaki Bands and Councils in this country are located in Vermont,
New Hampshire and Maine, with sub groups in Connecticut and
Massachusetts. The remaining Councils are domiciled in Canada.
The Abenaki Nation does not recognize the group asking for your family
records. And our research has yet to uncover Native American ancestors
in its leader's genealogy.
DO NOT compromise your heritage! If you feel you have an Abenaki
connection, and are interested in the future, as well as the history
of the Abenaki people, contact any one of the following Councils:
