(This is the outgrowth of increased interest in our language within the Great
Lakes area. Many of the Centers are now offering language classes and this
pow wow offers the opportunity to celebrate the reclamation of our language.
The emcees will be speaking in Ojibwe all night and nearly all of those
involved are either native speakers or have been studying the language with
Helen Roy or others for a number of years. We hope to inspire others to learn
Ojibwe by experiencing language in its natural, dynamic state instead of as
part of a museum display on disappearing indigenous tongues! Be a part of
this new movement. Come and learn a few phrases that will get you started!
And, by all means, if you speak another indigenous tongue--come join us! We
delight in the resurgence of all our ancestral languages. Be a part of the
celebration. ALL are sincerely and humbly invited to attend. Please come.
