I attended the CITEP '96 (Canadian Indian Teacher Education Program) annual
national conference in Vancouver in February. One of the workshops featured
a prototype of the CD-ROM produced by the Royal Commission on Aboriginal
Peoples (RCAP). The disk offers ALL 600,000 pages of testimony, plus
translations, plus submissions, and more. It also features extensive search
engines to find people, places, organizations, names, individual words and
text strings and more. Looks like they did this one right.
Unfortunately it's not due to be released until this fall, projected cost
about $300 (I think), but worth it. Incredible tool for researching and
developing policy based on current testimony from across Canada from Elders,
Chiefs, people, organizations and more.
They wouldn't sell me the prototype CD to take home <sigh>, but as soon as I
hear that it's available I'll post a note here.
