The article just mentioned was submitted to the NATCHAT list and
was mistakenly redirected to NATIVE-L by the moderator of that list.
I have asked him to send all such articles to me in future so that
I can make decisions on whether or not to relay them to this list
pending a change in my software which I am planning that will prevent
such things from happening.
My present policy is to permit questions on NATIVE-L only in cases
wheren the person asking the question represents serious research
whose results will likely be of substantial interest to the NATIVE-L
community as a whole, where the researcher has promised to make the
results of the research being done available to our community, and
where that research cannot easily be conducted in other ways.
I regret the necessity of this policy - it is based on a desire
to keep traffic on this list from getting too high and so that
questions can be dealt with by those who have voluntarily agreed
to do so. I want to keep NATIVE-L free for informational items
at the present time.
I will try to retain copies of questions that have been submitted
and to post them on the new channel (which will probably be Web-only,
rather than being implemented via a mailing list - as an experiment
to see how effective such a thing can be and because it's less work
administratively). Thanks to everyone for your patience and under-
standing.
