SUMMER SCHOOL IN DECEMBER 1996 !!

From December 9 to 22, 1996, the Maori Development Program at Waikato
University will hold an intensive undergraduate course (at senior level) on
contemporary Issues in Maori Society. Overseas students, especially from
indigenous nations, are encouraged to apply for entry.

The course, which is taught in English, is restricted to 35 students.

It involves:
1 meeting, studying and socialising with Maori students and Maori faculty,
2 two weeks of intensive lectures (four hours per day)
3 a two day field visit to one of the many tribal federations in the
university's hinterland to see development programs and stategies in
action
4 field trip includes staying in the tribal community house (marae).
5 an essay and a journal assignment for assessment which are to be
completed by Jan 31, 1997 and Feb 28 1997 respectively.

As all formal classes are completed by December 22, you can still be home
for Christmas.

The course is part of the Waikato University Summer School Program (summer
in Aotearoa as in the rest of the southern hemisphere is at its height in
December and January).

A passing grade in this course may be accredited (4 credit hours) to most
undergraduate degree programs in your own university, overseas students
should check with their university authorities beforehand to ensure
recognition.

Fees of approximately $US1000.00 are payable. Students from Aotearoa and
Australia are entitled to substantial government fee subsidies.
Accommodation in 1student residences on campus is available. Trans-Pacific
and Trans-Tasman flights are relatively cheap and readily available.
