The Rainforest Foundation International is seeking an EXECUTIVE
DIRECTOR.
The Executive Director must provide the organization with
leadership and vision during a time of dynamic change and growth.
S/he must have international experience in the fields of
environment, human rights, or development and be articulate on
rainforest and indigenous rights issues. Experience in working
with people of different cultures, managerial skills and a
capability for strategic planning and implementation are
required. Good communication, organizational and outreach skills
are essential. Considerable travel is necessary. Fluency of
English is necessary and knowledge of at least one other
language.
The Rainforest Foundation International (RFI) is a non-profit
organization which works, through public awareness, political
action and practical assistance, to support indigenous peoples
and traditional populations of the forest in their struggle to
defend their land and rights and to develop further the means to
manage and benefit from their resources in ways which do not harm
their environment, violate their culture or compromise their
future.
The initial focus of the Rainforest Foundation's work has been
the Xingu Basin in Brazil where it founded and implemented the
demarcation of a vast indigenous territory and has carried out
projects and programs aimed at protecting the homeland of some 17
different indigenous groups . The organization is extending its
work to protect rainforests and their peoples in the other areas
Under the direction of the International Board of Directors, the
Executive Director is responsible for developing strategies and
coordinating the work of the affiliates and field offices to
achieve the organization's objectives. A small international
office with 6 staff is located in New York.
This is a three year renewable contract with a starting salary of
