NATIVE-L: Hawaii's News Channel forwards

My apologies for having to send this appeal to the list as a whole.

To whoever is forwarding articles from NATIVE-L to "Hawaii's News
Channel 2," (KHON), please be aware that each such article sent as
a message to their e-mail address is causing an acknowledgement to
be sent back to the mailing list. Please find another way to do so,
if you feel it necessary to keep sending these messages (and might I
suggest that they might be much more effective if you preface each
one with a note from yourself, identifying yourself, explaining why
you have passed on the bulletin, and establishing yourself as a member
of their viewing audience).

While I'm at it, let me point out to everyone out there who is using
offline mail software that some such packages produce forwards that
do not replace the address in the "From:" line, but instead simply
add the notation "(by way of <whoever>)." As far as the mail software
of a receiving system is concerned, however, the message looks as if
it came from the person who sent the message originally, not from the
person who has forwarded it, so that replies (whether automatically
generated or otherwise) will go back to the original author, not to
yourself.

The results can sometimes be embarrassing - to all parties.

"A word to the wise," as they say, "is sufficient."
